Church World Service (CWS) held a community information meeting in Poughkeepsie this Thursday to discuss the upcoming resettlement of refugees in that city. A HUGE turnout -- about 300 people, mostly supportive. Interestingly, some of the people opposed, who had been pretty vociferous and threatening at an earlier meeting at Vassar, voiced their concerns in a much more civil manner. Maybe we can have a community dialogue.
At the end of the meeting, CWS invited people to have their pictures taken welcoming refugees. Here's just a few:
